FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.


What can I expect during a Reiki session?

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance and has many benefits for both client and practitioner, including altered states of consciousness and spiritual experiences. 

A client can expect to fill out an informational intake form that asks about the physical, mental and emotional well-being prior to the session. There will then be some discussion about the goals of the session and what the client hopes to achieve. The Reiki Practitioner should always ask if it is ok for the client to be touched, and it is perfectly fine for the client to refuse if this makes them uncomfortable. Reiki is the use of energy which knows no physical boundaries, as such it will work even if the client is not being touched, although it is more powerful through touch. A client can choose to be silent during the session or converse with the Reiki Practitioner about what and how they're feeling. There should never be any feeling of physical pain, however due to the nature of energy blockages throughout the body and energy field emotions can arise unexpectedly. 

At the close of the session the Reiki Practitioner will help the client to re-acclimate to the environment, possibly offering a glass of water. There will be additional discussion about how the client felt during the session, if there were any sensations (heat, cold, vibration, seeing colors are all normal), and if they feel good about the session. Payment for the session can take place either at the beginning or the end of the session.


What is Guided Meditation?

A meditation session conducted with verbal instruction from a teacher.


What can I expect during a Guided Meditation session?

A Guided Meditation session can be done over the phone, via Skype or Google Hangouts. Clients can expect to be asked about their goals for the meditation session, their history with meditation, how often they meditate and the types of meditation they practice (i.e. Mindfulness Meditation, Creative Visualization, etc). 

Clients should be prepared with a quiet and comfortable space as well as about an hour and a half for before and after discussion in addition to the actual session.


What is The healSELF Workshop Series?

The healSELF™ Workshop Series is a learning environment dedicated to helping individuals and groups achieve empowerment through learning various healing techniques. Throughout the workshops participants will be educated on the basics of Reiki, meditation, nutrition and many other facets of the wellness lifestyle via the expertise of various practitioners of the above healing modalities.


How often do The healSELF Workshops happen?

The healSELF™ Workshop Series occurs once per month as both an in-person workshop for those in the TriState area and as a webinar for those elsewhere. The subject matter and topics will be different for each with rotating facilitators.
